You’ll find all over Instagram and the rest of the internet stock advice and people selling their investment programs, all promising to make you rich quick if you pay for their investment strategy or service.

But here’s the truth: it’s all BS and they are trying to scam you out of money.

Warren Buffett, billionaire and one of the most successful investors of all time, has given the same advice time and again: invest in the S&P 500.  

What is the S&P 500?  It’s basically the top 500 companies in America as determined by Standard and Poor’s.  It’s a list that’s constantly changing and constantly updated.  No need to spend hours researching stocks.

And here’s what financial advisors really don’t want you to know: it’s almost free.  Seriously.  The Vanguard S&P 500 fund VINIX charged a .04% fee.  That’s compared to an advisor that’s likely to charge you 1% or more.  1% may not sound like much.  But if you have a 100,000 dollar investment account, and you can get there much quicker than you think, that’s a thousand dollars a year.  You can get the same and many times better returns for next to nothing.

The dirty little secret of the financial industry is advisors want you to think that they know more than you do.  Guess what? They don’t!  80% of advisors cannot beat the S&P 500.  You’re way better off in the long run sticking all your money in SPY or VINIX than entrusting your life savings to someone who’s going to charge you a ridiculous fee.
